Day 97
Reading: 1 Kings 3:1 - 1 Kings 5:18
Walking with God will lead to a life full of His glory. From the beginning of the Bible, in Genesis, we see God's desire to fellowship with humanity while he continues the work of creation. Eden was a starting point. We were to extend the Garden of Eden to cover the earth.
At the onset of the reign of Solomon, we learn and see of his passion for God. Solomon loved God and walked in the statutes of his father. The difference between him and his father was that he offered sacrifices in the high places to God. Solomon went a step further. It's not often that we saw David offer a sacrifice to God out of his own free will. Solomon, however, was different in this respect.
On one such encounter, Solomon gives to God a sacrificial offering of a thousand burnt offerings. The Word declares that during the night God appeared to Solomon in a dream and held a conversation with him. Solomon's offering had touched God that He was asked to ask whatever he wanted and he would have it. Imagine the Creator, the Lord God Almighty asking you to ask whatever you want He will give it to you! Just the thought and my mind is racing, my heart is palpitating because I might ask something and discover I was foolish.
Solomon asked for what was not material or emotional. His asking was in humility. He wasn't proud that God was talking to him. He celebrated that God was a promise-keeping God. He considered himself a child and understood that he would require a dimension of maturity to rule the people of Israel. He asked for an understanding heart that he may judge the people right and to discern between right and evil. His request pleased God and God gave him more than he asked for.
As I read and meditated on this passage of scripture it dawned on me that maybe one of the reasons many of us believers are not walking in wealth is because our prayer requests are self-centred and not purpose oriented. Solomon asked for what would enable his mandate to be with ease and would enrich the people. By his asking for understanding he became outstanding. Too many of us are asking to stand and are not willing to stand 'under' or for the purpose of God but desire only to stand on self. This is the recipe for failure. And even if you may have some measure of wealth, please know that God has so much more if you align yourself with Him. Learn to ask God for what concerns Him. When your need is in line with God's purpose, God answers with an overflow. Remember Hannah. She wanted a child while God needed a prophet. As soon as she gave the child to God barrenness was broken.
Out of this encounter, God told Solomon to see that he had been given a wise and understanding heart. Solomon didn't begin hearing wise words out of his mouth. He began by seeing that his heart now contained the potential for wisdom. Many times we want the manifestation of our request without first seeing. Until you see the light of God in the provision of the answer, you cannot hold the manifestation. In the encounter, God encouraged Solomon to walk before Him abiding by the commandments of the Lord. God also gave to Solomon what he didn't ask for: wealth, long life, honour and his enemies.
Solomon was soon tested when two ladies arrived with two babies, one alive and the other dead. His wise answer to the conundrum to discover who the real mother of the living child was, made the people of Israel fear him for they saw the wisdom of God in him to administer justice. May God baptise us with wisdom to administer justice. Soon the testimony of Solomon was that God gave him wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, with a great capacity within.
