Lift Other Lives

Day 170 Reading: Proverbs 19:1 - 25:28 God is interested in the wellbeing of our lives. How we treat other people is something God looks at closely. How we treat family members, the words we speak to others, how diligent we are at work are all things addressed in the Book of Proverbs. One very important topic that is discussed in the Book of Proverbs is how the poor are treated and what our responses to their plight should be. We live in a world where we are becoming more and more self-centred. Where it is easy to never think of others especially with the work routines, bills we face and the dreams to build our castles we should never forget those who don't have. Christianity today is in danger of because of the selfishness of the believer. We have an attitude of 'me, myself and I' which is detrimental to the Kingdom of God. God is interested in your doing well, however, He expects you to pay attention to what pains His heart.   We have allowed our giving to th...

The Power of Speech

Day 169 Reading: Proverbs 14:1 - Proverbs 18:24 The words we speak will either make or break us. Words are important to God. They are so important that at the beginning of the Bible we encountered their power in creation Genesis 1 . God has conversations and listens to conversations. Words are not empty contrary to the popular saying. They carry life or death in them, even that empty promise carries a death sentence to the person who made it. We must understand the power of our verbiage. When you understand the purpose and power of something you can use it effectively. Job understood the power of words having understood that words establish things in our lives Job 22:28 . Here are a few pointers on words. Speak few words to avoid sin Proverbs 10:19 . Learn to be one who speaks few words Proverbs 17:27 . Deal with verbal diarrhoea. Don't be a participant in every conversation just because you feel like talking. Set a guard over my mouth is a daily prayer I make Psalms 14...

Promises of God

Day 168 Reading: Proverbs 10:1 - Proverbs 13:32 The Bible is filled with promises from God. God does make promises and we His children have the responsibility to understand them and to see them come to pass. Whilst reading the portion of scripture today one part of me was asking why am I bothering to read the Bible? I know that sounds weird. However, one side inside me was reminding me of the benefits of reading the Word. Many today don't read the Bible. They class the Bible as a Sunday reading book only in church kinda thing to have. The Bible is for daily living and God has promises that speak to every facet of life. Why should I look for the promises of God? Any business person will understand that a contract has obligations. Read the word of God with a mindset of seeking what is God obligated to do to me as His child. The promises of God in the Bible reveals God's desire for your wellbeing. They reveal His love and will for your life. From Genesis we see God ma...

Get Wisdom

Day 167 Reading: Proverbs 4:1 - Proverbs 9:18 The main central theme of the Book of Proverbs is the clarion cry to acquire wisdom. Repeatedly in the early chapters, we see the author advising and admonishing on the pursuit of wisdom. Wisdom is not referred to as a principle thing but it is the principle thing to get. King Solomon could attest to the value of wisdom. His desire for a heart that would enable him to rule the children of Israel well saw God open all the vats of blessings into his life. Why should I get divine wisdom?  The Bible instructs to get wisdom Proverbs 4:7 . Get it because wisdom was there in the beginning and this beginning is the beginning before creation. Why wouldn't you want to connect to the force that was there before creation? Wisdom will order your steps along the smooth path Proverbs 4:12 . Wisdom gives a clear path to greatness. Wisdom leads one on the way of God. Wisdom will help clear hurdles that life throws. Wisdom deals with the curv...

The Power of Praise

Day 165 Reading: Psalms 141:1 - Psalms 150:6 The Book of Psalms is filled with promises that release the power of praise. I have every reason to praise God. God is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth Genesis 1:1 . He is the Author of my life Genesis 2:7 . God is the one who is able to save Psalms 103:1-5 . I praise God because His thoughts about me are uncountable Psalms 139:17 . God is mindful of me Psalms 8:5-8 . God cares so much for me that He set a crown on my head. I know maybe my life doesn't look like it has a crown however like David I will yet praise God because even if Goliath boasts I know who I represent and praise Jehovah. As I praise Him I see His power displayed.  When I praise God His power is displayed because praise enthrones God in our lives Psalms 22:3 . Many times we go through situations where the enemy seeks to be enthroned. All we talk and think when in the valley is about that which is a shadow of death. However, remember that though you ...

God's Desire for You

Day 164 Reading: Psalms 131:1 - Psalms 140:13 God loves you and I. His love is undiminished. As I meditated on what to write I began to hear the following words; "God desires the best for you. Reading through the passages of scripture above my heart was captivated with how much do we take for granted what God desires for us? Many times we seem to think that God doesn't have the best intentions for us yet God desires the best for us. The Psalmist understood that God is interested in everything about humanity. God is so big and yet so interested in the mundane that He was there when you and I were being formed. There is nothing insignificant to God. You are not insignificant. You were born with a purpose and God was involved in your making. You are not an accident nor an incident or coincidence waiting to happen. God planned and fashioned your timeline. He formed and covered you whilst making you. Your days were written in His books before you were born. His desire ...
