The Blessings in Proverbs

Day 166

Reading: Proverbs 1:1 - Proverbs 3:37

Welcome to a new book in the Bible. The Book of Proverbs is attributed to mainly have been written by King Solomon. However, as we read we shall discover that there are proverbs that were written by other wise men. This book is filled with wisdom for daily living. It is full of practical applications that will help one walk uprightly and not stumble in their daily pursuits. I encourage you to study and meditate carefully on each chapter so as to draw all the wealth that is necessary for your going forward and lifting in life.

You may be asking why I should I pay attention to the Book of Proverbs? In the first chapter, the author notes the blessings that are released as one studies Proverbs.

  • By studying the Book of Proverbs you will know wisdom and instruction. As stated earlier the Book of Proverbs is a practical book filled with practical instructions for daily life. There are no grey lines in obedience to God. The Book of Proverbs will give answers to many scenarios that we encounter in life. One instruction in today's reading is to not withhold from the person who asks what you have Proverbs 3:27-28. God doesn't withhold His blessings so why would you withhold what you can easily help someone in need.
  • Understanding the will and ways of God will be increased. The practical nature of the book will generate understanding within the person who spends time diligently studying the Word of God.
  • You receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgement and equity. Everyone knows the value of wise counsel. The Book of Proverbs will give wise counsel that instructs one in the way of wisdom. Divine wisdom is to be sought after for it is higher than carnal wisdom.
  • Wisdom gives one prudence, knowledge and discretion in life. When one is fuelled by wise counsel then they are prudent in their actions.
  • It will cause one to increase in wisdom. Do they call you wise, then study the Proverbs to increase your wisdom. Every wise person knows that they must keep studying to increase and improve.
  • The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. To have all the degrees in the world and not have the fear of the Lord is foolhardy. Solomon tapped into all the wisdom because he feared God.
As you read the Book of Proverbs let your desire be to cry to divine wisdom to flood your life. Divine wisdom is more precious than gold or silver and is to be desired above all else in life. Lord grant me wisdom!

Memory Verse: Proverbs 1:7

Decree:

I will not be wise in own eyes; I will fear the Lord and depart from evil. It shall be health to my flesh and strength to my bones. Proverbs 3:7-8 (personalised, italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
