Trust in God

Day 151

Reading: Psalms 11:1 - Psalms 20:9

Trust in God. I write again trust in God. Without trust in God, one can never enjoy the benefits of the promises of God. As one reads the Psalms this issue of trust is constantly brought up. I love the encouragement in Psalms 11:1 where the author declares that his trust is in God.

When your trust in God is secure then your foundations cannot be destroyed. However when we find that our trust is not in God then our foundations are not solid and we find that many times when the storms of life blow we find ourselves sinking because our foundation is faulty. How does the foundation get destroyed is a question I asked myself? Sin eats at the foundation of trust. Doubt and unbelief are other factors that affect the foundation.

This theme of trust is carried through the Psalms many times. We find in Psalms 16 David declared that only in God's Presence does one find joy. Place your trust in God alone no matter what you are facing and seek to see His will established in that situation.

On the other hand, we see that fate of the wicked. The person who thinks or says there is no God is called a fool. Why such a harsh term? Creation alone is sufficient to show us that there is a God. Reading Psalms 14 today filled me with amazement. Reading the description of many who live as though God is not alive and without a care for God reminded me that God has the final say.

Psalms 15 reveals to us the qualities of one who abides with God. These qualities reveal the kind of character that God desires of us. Today we find many people adore vile persons and abhor those who stand for the truth. May God have mercy on us!

Psalms 20 is one of my favourite Psalms. It is a prayer that speaks to our being. In closing today I ask that you read out aloud Psalms 20 as a prayer over your life.

Memory Verse: Ps. 16:11

Decree:

Psalms 20

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you; may He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion; may He remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice. May He grant you according to your heart’s desire and fulfil all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions. Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They have bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stand upright. Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
