Heartbeats

Day 155

Reading: Psalms 51:1 - Psalms 60:12

One of our greatest desires from friends and even to friends is to convey our inner heartfelt passions and thoughts. What separates many people from being close to anyone is the usually a matter of the heart. You don't tell everyone your inner musings. The happenings within a person dictate a lot of what, where, who, why and how they behave or are as a person. The heart as we know from biology is a vital body organ that pumps blood around the body. Without this function, one is classed as dead. God is interested in our hearts. God pays attention to the state of the heart.

David understood that sin deadens the heart. Thus he cried to God to create in him a new heart. David understood the importance of a heart that is alive to God. Sin cuts us off from the place God has ordained for us. God desires an intimacy with the heart and sin is a barrier to this. See your heart as a place God desires to commune with you. See your heart as a type of a garden of Eden and you will understand the gravity of sin. Let your heart beat be one that is full of a purity and hunger for God free from the shackles of sin.

Another desire we see of the heart in the Psalms is that of the heart being postures as contrite and broken. God hates pride. God loathes arrogance. God is pleased by a heart that is broken before Him. This brokenness is a type of humility where one understands the correct posture to have before God. Being broken in the heart is not just about having the correct perception of God towards sin. It's also about having the correct attitude towards God's Presence.

The conversations of the heart are as important as the words one speaks. Actually, the happenings inside determine a lot of what we see outside a person. That's why God takes a stern view of the fool who says there is no God. The fool is not just speaking outwardly. However, the fool has within themselves postured and determined that God doesn't exist. Whatever situation you are passing through learn to acknowledge God. Don't be classed as a fool because you have decided within your heart that God is not able to be God over that matter that is troubling you.

Every time I read the Word I pray that my heart will be sifted. That God will remove all that is not of him within me that I may stand upright. Learn to daily examine your heart and see if there be anything that is speaking against your wellbeing in the Throne of God. Let your heartbeat draw you closer to God.

Memory Verse: Psalms 60:12

Decree:

Psalms 59:16
But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
