According to Your Word

Day 162

Reading: Psalms 119

Giving praise to God continually is to be a habit we cultivate or inculcate in our daily life. We should allow praise to flow from our inner being to the Most High effortlessly. Let everyday present you and me with an opportunity to celebrate the works of God.

Reading through the Book of Psalms, you will encounter the longest Psalms and or chapter in the Bible, Psalms 119. The shortest chapter or Psalms is 117. The middle point of the Bible if you were looking for the centre of the Bible when measuring using the chapter count then it is Psalms 118. Today, however, we shall look at Psalms 119 and especially one phrase that struck me as I meditated on this portion of Scripture. I use the New King James Version and I was struck by this phrase "according to Your Word".

The Psalmist understood that life was to be lived according to God's Word and not man's word. Throughout the Bible, speaking the Word of God releases the power that we need to be released in different circumstances.
  • Take heed according to God's Word Psalms 119:9, 116. The only way you can live a life that is pleasing to God is by living in accordance with the Word. The Word provides a clear path away from the way of sin.
  • Revival is only Word-based Psalms 119:25, 107, 154. Understand that the Word of God generates the life that will revive that which seems dead. God spoke and the earth came alive. Speak and what is yours will come alive.
  • Strength is found in the Word Psalms 119:28. When faced with the forces that seem to outweigh our minds with thoughts of failure, death, or loss turn to the Word of God and feed on it for strength. The Word will help you refocus on God's purposes. Looking into the Word will move your gaze from the thoughts that belittle your existence by delivering a renewal of your mind that fills you with hope.
  • Salvation is according to God's Word Psalm 119:41, 170. We all need to to be saved from someplace. Don't deny that you need God's salvation by thinking you don't need God. That is fatal. Salvation is only accessible according to God's Word which reveals His Way.
  • The Word reveals God's mercies Psalms 119:58, 76. Seek God in His Word with the understanding that He is a merciful God who reveals Himself in His Word. Favour flows towards those who seek the mercy of God.
  • God deals with us according to His Word Psalms 119:65. Ever played a game of cards, you play what is dealt with you by the dealer. Understand that your life is to be played out within the boundaries of the Word of God. Seek God regarding every situation you face and bring the Word of God to deal with it.
  • Understanding is only through the Word of God Psalm 119:169. No matter how things seem, let your cry be to have understanding from God's perspective in all things. Learn to ask God to reveal Himself to you by His Word. Don't expect to go through the jigsaw that life is sometimes without the understanding that God's Word serves as a guidebook.
May our cry be to God to open our eyes that we may behold the wondrous things in His Word Psalms 119:18.

Memory Verse: Psalms 119:105

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
