Value God's Instructions

Day 159

Reading: Psalms 91:1 - Psalms 100:5

The Book of Psalms is filled not only with prayers and songs of praise but also with instructions that guide the believer towards greatness. One can actually study the Book of Psalms and see the different instructions that draw us closer to God. Today I will list a few of the instructions contained within our reading.
  • Abide in God. Learn to stay in the Presence of God. Safety is only found when one makes the Presence of God the place of habitation and not an occasional place. Notice that the promise to abide under the shadow of God Almighty is given to those who dwell in the secret place. Many people quote Psalm 91 thinking that quoting it will give to them the desired result of protection. The key to receiving what God has ordained is tied to your dwelling in the secret place.
  • Make the Lord your refuge. We live in a world where people make many other things, idols, people, money their refuge. The Psalmist exhorts that one makes the Lord God their refuge. The reason for this is that all others will fail. God can never fail.
  • Set your love on God. God promises deliverance to the person who chooses to love God. Make the choice to love God outrageously. Love Him with all your being and capacity. Direct all your affection to God. As you love God you become a reflector of His love to the world. Setting your love on God allows for answered prayer.
  • Give thanks always. You cannot access the Courts of God without thanksgiving and praise. The Psalmist says it is good to give thanks. No one likes ungrateful people. Ungrateful people are never welcome again. How much more should this apply with God the giver of life?
  • Be planted in the House of God. God doesn't take pleasure in people who are not single-minded or focused. One foot in and the other in the dirt is not pleasing to God. Every believer should not be a pew warmer in the House of God. Be planted by being active and a contributor to the success of the House of God.
  • Hear God for success. When one receives instructions from God they open themselves to the possibilities of greatness. When one chooses to disobey God they have chosen to be marked for failure.
  • Give to God what is due to Him. Don't be stingy with God. Give to God without failure.  Let God be your all and learn to give to Him all the glory due to Him alone.
May I urge that today and every other day of your life seek to hear God and fulfil his instructions and obligations to you. Don't harden your voice. Instead, yearn for God to speak to you about everything.

Now is....

Everyday I seek to share something that I have learnt through the daily reading. I make a choice to discipline myself not to write too much as we inundated with a lot of reading material. Feel free to add comments because that way we share and thus encourage one another to grow into the fullness of Christ. Today I am amazed at the fact that God will always remember His covenant and fulfill the promise. I want to list five words in the order they appear in one scripture that showed God is at work in our lives. Remembered : My God will never forget me. To be delayed is not to be denied as God will surely remember. God spoke and said to Sarah that He would return at the appointed time; at the right season!!! I do believe that we are in a season where we will see God begin to act on the promises that seem forgotten. Or better put in another way there is a resurrection of seemingly forgotten prophecies that is about to take place. Dry bones are beginning to take shape. Listened : No longer ...

Blessing or ....

To live well is one thing we all desire. I have never met anyone who did not want to live well. By living well for some people it means helping others. For others it means having a successful business. Yet for others it means travelling the world. I have discovered that it is not money that empowers but the blessing of God that empowers. Money is simply one of the many ways that the effects of the blessing may show up. Many times today in society we confuse money with being blessed yet people like Mother Teresa did not flaunt money but her life still is blessing many people round the world. The book of Deuteronomy has challenged me to desire to be blessed. Anyone who has walked with the blessing of God in their live has seen doors open that are a struggle for others. Yesterday I wrote about obedience. What obedience opens our lives to is the operation of the blessing. By choosing to obey the Word we are choosing to open our lives to be blessed. The purpose of being blessed is not self ...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
