Faith Lifters

Day 163

Reading: Psalms 120:1 - Psalms 130:8

How many times when faced with a difficult situation have you ever just taken a psalm and read it out? Personally, I do it a lot. I find that the language of the Book of Psalms is one that is able to represent my emotions and state of mind when I am dealing with challenges in life. As I have been reading through the Book of Psalms I have been learning to read the Psalms aloud. This fills the atmosphere with words that provoke faith in God.

Our reading today contains a portion of the Book of Psalms that has some short psalms that are very powerful. They are short psalms that are loaded with explosive dynamite that fuels the faith of the believer. Reading through the reading today I began to see how the psalmists were filled with faith and had the understanding that only God could provide help for every situation.

Where do you look for help? We live in a world today where self-help is being pushed to everyone and being advocates as a recipe for success. We live in a time where humanity is not told to seek God the Creator but is being told to seek within for they have the answers. Today's reading repeatedly points us to look to God for God is the One in charge of our lives.

The psalmist also makes it clear that any venture without God is in trouble. Live life with the understanding that God is the Master Builder of our lives. He is the Architect of our lives. Let God be the Engineer of your every project. Let Him be the Commander in Chief to protect you from the enemy you fear. Let God be the Doctor who provides health and fruitfulness in the household. Remind God that He is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth and He is your Keeper. Don't forget God is the Forgiver of sins. When you look up to God you are saying to God that you are His responsibility every step of the way in life. When God is all you look up to then gladness will fill your heart when you go into the House of God.

My challenge to you today is to read any one of today's Psalms out aloud and see how it fills you with faith.

Psalms 125:3
For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
