Where's Your Focus?

While travelling recently I heard a lady say that she reads the horoscope every day but does not believe in it. Listening to her try to explain that even though she thought that her day would be ruined if she didn't read the horoscope and also say that she didn't believe in horoscopes or astrology made me realise that many times we are confused about what we believe and its power over our lives.

Many today are seeking for direction in life; more are seeking for appreciation and a pick me up either in coffee or in words spoken to them at the start of the day. As I thought about the lady and her denial about her beliefs I began to think about the many times we read the bible and don't believe it. The same attitude this lady was displaying can be found amongst many believers today. As I sat to examine myself I realised that many times in life our hearts get congested with the rigours of life and as a consequence we lose focus.

Loss of focus leads to sinking, especially when waking in faith. Peter showed us that one cannot walk on water and expect to remain on top in life whilst looking at the storms Matthew 14:29-30. I realised that many times I sink in life when I don't focus on what God has said. Let me encourage you this week not to treat the Word of life lightly like its some ritual religious reading material to start the day off but let it be a faith builder for your life.

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
