Walk In The Spirit

Day 284

Reading: Galatians 1:1 - Galatians 6:18

How we relate with God is a matter that many have written or talked about. The church in Galatia contains a lesson for every believer. Reading through the letter to the Galatians you feel Paul was cross with the vacillations of the believers in Galatia. Paul was dealing with issues that plague the believer even today.

Many start the race well and suddenly after some time start running the race in a manner that seemingly appears to pour cold water on fire. The Galatians listened to teaching that derailed them. They soon were preaching and subscribing to a gospel that was different from the true gospel. They had imbibed a lie that the gospel required them to do works to maintain or attain salvation. As I read this I began to ask myself how many times have I allowed an opinion of men to cause me to waver from the place of faith?

Paul instructs that we believers are to walk in the Spirit so as to avoid the lusts of the flesh. We all deal with different lusts of the flesh from lying, corruption, robbery, fornication, adultery, murder to masturbation! I haven't listed every known sin just a few that society is dealing with today. To avoid falling for the lusts of the flesh Paul encourages that we live lives that bear the fruit of the Spirit.

Before Jesus was crucified He admonished the disciples that people will know if they are followers of His by their fruits. When people look at us anywhere do they see the fruit of God's Spirit in us? Does your office mate know that you are a Christian or is your mouth worse than the pit of hell? Do other students know that you are a believer or are you entertaining sugar daddies or is a sugar mummy entertaining your sexual desires? How do I grow the fruit of the Spirit? How do I cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in my life?

  • Think the Word of God.
  • Speak the Word of God.
  • Renew your mind with the Word of God.
  • Pray the Word of God over situations.
  • Have a lifestyle of worshipping God, not things.
  • Birds of a feather flock together. If you desire to grow in the fruit of the Spirit have like-minded people around you.
Memory Verse: Galatians 2:20

Decree:

Galatians 5:1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
