From Pain to Pleasure

2010 is nearly here. We have just a couple of days remaining in 2009. For some this year has been painful. For some its been great. But one thing many people keep saying about life in general is that it getting tougher. More people have cried out in pain. To be honest even those who say its been great this year have also commented to me how they have experienced some form of pain.

In today's reading we meet a man called Jabez. We meet him in a book called Chronicles which chronicles the story of Israel from creation. The beginning of the book is filled with details of the lineage of the children of Israel from Adam. In the midst of all the names we meet a man who is described as more honourable than his brothers. Jabez, whose name means sorrowful dared to believe God that his story would be different. I am encouraged that if God could change Jabez's story then my story and your story is about to change.

As you step into 2010 my prayer is that you will settle with God about the future you desire. Jabez desired to change his present circumstances. He prayed knowing that if God could change his present his future was secure. There would no more sorrow but the goodness of God in his life. Sorrow does not bring honour but the blessing of God would result in honour being bestowed on him. may 2010 result in you being bestowed honour like never before.

I pray that as you enter 2010 the hand of God will rest upon you. May His face shine on you and all that has your name written on it. I pray that in 2010 you will see increase on your right and left. As you enter 2010 may you encounter the One who is the lifter of our heads. Prepare to be honoured in 2010 like never before. As 2009 comes to an end wave goodbye to sorrow and welcome new found possibilities of God's goodness in all that bears your name.

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
