Judgement Against God's Enemies

Day 208

Reading: Jeremiah 46:1 - Jeremiah 50:46

Enemies, enemies, enemies, we all have them and hate them. Today lets see what God says about His enemies. Let's not confuse brethren as enemies for this is one plight today amongst God's children. One of the reasons we don't see God move today is because we have made our brothers and sisters our enemies when they don't fit our box. Many times I wonder what does God feel when we call His child an enemy and expect Him to move on our behalf. Even when God is displeased with His children He doesn't call them an enemy. When He judges His children and fights them He does so as a loving Father seeking to correct His children. Reading through Jeremiah we have seen God use nations as His tool of judgement against Israel. However, God also judged the nations for various reasons.

The first reason why the nations were judged by God is their idolatry. For a nation to think that they were greater than anyone else was a complete mockery of God who raises one nation and also defeats another. Egypt had Pharaoh while the other nations worshipped others deities which were repugnant to God. Understand that worshipping any other god other than Jehovah will bring judgement. God is a jealous God. He doesn't want to be shared or to share space. You were created for God and God alone not any other god.

Babylon led by Nebuchadnezzar brought about the downfall of Judah and yet we find that God judged this nation for being proud. Humility will sustain you before God. Babylon means confusion. When one is held captive by confusion one's life is in tatters. Even worse is when one is proud while confused. Many today are confused about their identity, purpose, life role and yet their lives smell of pride. Are you proud of your achievements yet your life has no sense of God? Be careful that judgement is not unleashed against you. Jeremiah prophesied of the kingdom that would topple the Babylonian empire.

God's word is a sword. A sword that is not blunt and neither fails to accomplish its purpose. God's sent word is not haphazard. It is sent for a specific purpose and is powerful to accomplish the given goal. From today go about your business knowing that God's word will not rest until it accomplishes what it was sent for. God's word may not come to pass immediately but know that in due time it will manifest.

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...
