Speak to that Mountain

Day 253

Reading: Mark 10:1 - Mark 13:37

Words are powerful. Words are loaded with either life or death Proverbs 18:21. Many today are suffering from a words-said problem. For example, some people have never become what God designed them to be because someone ridiculed them. Words by an authority carry weight. When a ruler or a person of authority speaks the spoken word it releases or binds the hearers. This is what the Centurion understood when he approached Jesus about his sick servant. He understood that Jesus only needed to speak the Word and his servant would be healed. The Centurion also understood that his part was to believe the word spoken carried authority. The Centurion honoured Jesus as he understood that Jesus operated with an authority that mere men didn't have Matthew 8:5-13

Creation reveals to us the power of the spoken word. Look up and see the sky, and remember that God spoke a word calling for a separation of the heavens and the earth. God before making man had a conversation Genesis 1. God used words to create this earth. Words create your universe. Words create your marriage, home, children, career, business, academics and life in general.

Jesus while walking here on earth meets a fig tree with leaves but no figs. He spoke a word that caused the fig tree to wither. I always wondered why however as I read today I realised something. How could what God created not have fruit when the Creator demanded of it? The Miracle Worker asked fruit of a tree and it didn't have. Let me pause and remind you that we are God's planting here on earth. May He not meet you without fruit!

Jesus then declared that no fruit would ever be found in the tree and as a result, the tree withered from the roots. The One on whom creation stands had declared something that simply meant that tree wouldn't stand any more. When Peter saw the tree and questioned Jesus about it the response he received was a lesson on faith and your words. Jesus made it abundantly clear that your words carry weight. What do you need to see the creative power of words?
  • Faith. Total confidence in God. When you seat down on a chair you don't check whether it can support you. Faith in God is similar. Total implicit trust in God that what you are saying will come to pass.
  • Speak in line with God's Word. Jesus when dealing with the devil spoke the Word why would we do any less. The Book of Job reveals to us that when we decree a thing it is established and light shines on it Job 22:28. When you speak God's Word you commit Heaven to back His Word. Remember God has exalted His Word above all things Psalms 138:2.
  • Deal with unforgiveness. One of the reasons many decrees don't come to pass is because there is a veil hindering their coming to pass. David said that if we regard iniquity in our hearts then God doesn't hear us Psalms 66:18. Let go and let God take over.
Memory Verse: Mark 10:27

Decree:

Mark 11:23
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
