Day 259
Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31
The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.
Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father. The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the pigs ate. There is a lesson to learn here: don't waste the resources God gives. Being located away from the Father will introduce waste. When sons move away from the Father wasted lives becomes their storyline. Many are busy working for the wrong person because they have moved away from the Father taking what He has given them and using it wildly.
The young man soon came to his senses. The Bible says that he came to himself. How did he come to himself? He reasoned by recalling the Father's House and his present state as a farm worker. He reasoned that he would rather go back to His Father and become a servant than be a mere servant of someone who didn't feed him well. On returning to his father he received five things that turned his story. I pray that as you read this the Father of Heaven will do the same for you.
- Compassion: The son received compassion from his father who runs to hug him and meet him. The father didn't castigate him for the losses. Note to fathers and mothers but more so fathers, learn to walk the walk of compassion when your sons fail. Compassion goes a long way to rehabilitating poor behaviour than harshness or a silent treatment.
- Best Robe: The father restored his son and dressed him right. Many sons today are walking with wounds from interactions with fathers where fathers should have provided a robe of favour to them. Jacob gave Joseph a robe of many colours. Dear Parent, what robe are you clothing your children? Are they clothed with shame or love?
- Ring: The son desired to return as a servant, the father gave him sonship. Many children walk without hearing approval from their parents. A ring given to a spouse is a seal of approval. In times gone a signet ring was used to sign documents and the bearer carried the authority of the giver of the ring. Many today haven't received approval from their parents leading to lives without authority to become the greatest.
- Sandals: The young man had walked a path and returned home worn out. The father commands that he receive sandals worthy of his restoration. Parents, fathers and mothers, give your children a path of light. Jesus in calling the disciples to be fishers of men and not fish was giving the disciples sandals to walk a new path.
- Celebration: The father choose to rejoice the return of his son. The father understood that God lays a table in the presence of your enemies. The elder brother on hearing the commotion was unhappy. He was resentful and not excited that his brother had returned. God wants to give you a celebration. As you rejoice at the restoration being bestowed on you understand that some people will not want you rejoicing.
I pray that you will return to the Father. Understand that God is looking out for you and can't wait for you to return to Him. You will only be satisfied with life when you are in Him. Come back to the Father!
Memory Verse: Luke 15:7
Decree:
Luke 16:13
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (italics mine)
