Day 263
Reading: John 4:1 - John 5:47
Imagine Jesus walking up to you and asking you to give Him a drink? Stunned am sure you would be. The Samaritan woman responds back to Him asking why He was speaking to her seeing that Jews didn't talk to the Samaritans. Jesus was a barrier breaker. He didn't look at someone's background, beliefs, sexuality to talk to them. He didn't entertain sin but He related to them and gave them life. In the course of the conversation, Jesus tells the lady to go call her husband. Before He could give her the Living Water Jesus needed to deal with a particular issue. You see Jesus and the Samaritan Woman were talking about life for water is a life-giving source. 70% of the human body is water. Who or what gives you life is the crux of this conversation.
Many today may look at this lady and be in shock at her turnover of spouses, however, may I suggest to you that in life many of us are suffering from the same plague. As I thought about this portion of scripture the Holy Spirit began to ask me who am I married to. Of course, I said my wife then God began to show me how many times we are married to others, not just a marital spouse. God doesn't compete with any sources. One must drop all to receive life from God.
- Work: Many people are married to some form of work. It's either a career or business that some look to as the life source. Workaholics live in the office. Some people are constantly working and never receive the life of God. Work also will include all the studying to develop your career or business prospects. I am not against it, however, balance is key to receiving the life of God.
- Senses: We are so driven by any of the five senses: touch, sight, smell, taste and hearing. What is touching you that you cannot allow God to wholly have you? What have you smelled in life that has totally taken over your wellbeing? What sight has captured and enraptured you to forget God? What are you hearing that has driven you from God? What sin have you tasted that has driven you away from God?
- Pride of life: Some people are married to their status in life. They have arrived and cannot stoop to the level of being hungry for the Living Waters of God. Some carry pride yet they have nothing. Be wary of the things of this life possessing you. If you cannot give away what God has blessed you with then you haven't learnt the lesson of Abraham. He was willing to sacrifice Isaac the child he waited for 25 years because He knew God was able to raise Him. It is better to be weighed by God and found to have his substance than discover that the weight we have in the world is of no use.
- Me, Myself and I: Many today are full of themselves and God hates this. Jesus had run-ins with the Pharisees because they were full of themselves and never considered others before themselves. A person whose only conscious of themselves cannot receive the Live of God unless they submit themselves to God.
- People: A needy mentality is the ruin of many today. Yes, we are creatures of fellowship and need others to be whole however many today have developed a needy mentality that has trapped them in poverty. When you look at many people world over they have a give me mentality. They can never get unless someone gives to them. The challenge is when we only ask people and forget to ask God. I am not against asking, however, do not limit God to only one way of working out for you a miracle. You don't need a big shot or a small shot to make it. You need the Creator and Giver of Life to supply your every need. Look to God and He will send the needed people to accomplish what He has assigned for your life.
Jesus in asking for a drink desired to give the Samaritan Woman a far better drink: Living Water. God wants you to drink from Him. Even today Jesus is asking for a drink from you while desiring that you ask of the Living Waters from Him because your water cannot compare to the Living Waters of God. I pray today that you and I will do away with the 'husbands' that we have tied ourselves to that inhibit our drinking of the Living Waters.
Memory Verse: John 4:23-24
Decree:
