Priesthood

Day 35

Reading: Lev. 21:1- Lev. 23:44

Serving God is what we are to live for. It's not the exclusive call of a few but for humanity. God made us to serve Him and that we serve Him wholly. The law was strict on what a priest was allowed to do. The priest was to carry out their life with total consecration to God. The priest was not to hang around dead persons. Defilement meant that as a priest you couldn't offer the offerings or partake of the bread. Yes, he could be there for close family members but not everybody. Charles, don't mix yourself with everyone and thus get defiled. God is to be hallowed before all men!

Live a consecrated life to be able to give bread to God. Don't live holy for the people but for God who makes me holy. A defect would disqualify a priest from serving in the tabernacle. Charles, how many priests are disqualified today because of defects in character though they are eating the bread of God. Deal with your defects Charles so as not to be disqualified from serving God. Remember God is a God of mercy and He has compassion to whom He desires and shows His mercies to whoever He wants.

From speaking of the consecration of the priest God speaks to Moses on offerings. A sacrifice of thanksgiving is to be done out of a freewill offering only. Charles, learn to give sacrificially and out of your free will. An offering should not be of the remains or of what is full of defects.

The feasts that were to be observed were as follows:
  • Sabbath
  • Passover and Unleavened Bread
  • Feasts of Firstfruits
  • Feast of Weeks
  • Feast of Trumpets
  • Day of Atonement
  • Feast of Tabernacles

These celebrations were to be observed as part of worship to God. Today I feel we have lost the reverence for God partly because we don't honour God enough to lay all aside and just worship Him. The feasts required leaving everything for God alone.

Memory Verse: Lev. 22:29

Decree:

Father, I honour You and bow before You alone. I celebrate You and purpose to live a life that reverences You alone. Forgive me for not walking in awe of You and thus losing the fear of God. I give You Lord a sacrifice of thanksgiving and willing to bring before You all that I have and lay it down before Your Throne and Altar to worship You in Jesus name. Amen.

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...
