God Reigns Over All

Day 111

Reading: 2 Kings 18:1 - 2 Kings 20:21

Let every boaster boasting against God know that God reigns supreme. There is no higher court than that of God. In the midst of turmoil around us, we need to remind ourselves and our adversaries that God is still in charge. I understand it's difficult to maintain focus when everything around is not working, however, don't allow the circumstances to speak to you greater things than the promises of God. Paint a bigger picture of God in your imagination.

King Hezekiah loved God and walked not just after God that the Bible says after him there wasn't any other king like him. And because of his pursuit of God, the Lord prospered him that he rebelled against the Assyrians who had placed the region under oppression.

When King Hezekiah rebelled against the Assyrians, King Sennacherib sent messengers to threaten the people. He didn't get messengers who needed translators. His intention was to deliver his message to all the people and cause them to leave King Hezekiah. King Hezekiah had advised the people to say nothing. They listened as the message was delivered in Hebrew and when King Hezekiah was told the message he asked that the prophet Isaiah be told and to seek a response.

King Hezekiah understood that first, the people shouldn't respond to the voice of the enemy. Learn to keep silent when the enemy is taunting you. Secondly, King Hezekiah sent for the prophet to declare the mind of God. The first time the Assyrians came to the Kingdom of Judah King Hezekiah gave them silver and gold. The next time he became bold and rebelled. Learn from your mistakes. Don't fuel your bondage.

After the prophetic word, the messengers hurried back to King Sennacherib for they heard of the wars he was fighting. Jerusalem had survived this once. However, King Sennacherib sends messengers again to Jerusalem and came boasting that no nation or God can withstand the power of his forces. He presents a letter mocking God from King Sennacherib. King Hezekiah on hearing the contents of the letter takes the letter and goes to the House of God to cry to God. He didn't seek for the prophet. He sought God to intervene.

King Hezekiah's prayer in the midst of adversity was to worship God as the One who reigns over all the earth and kingdoms. He then asks God to open His ears to the boastings of Sennacherib which are a reproach to the Living God. King Hezekiah simply told God that the Assyrian king was mocking God and as far as King Hezekiah was concerned God needed to defend Himself.

God sent Isaiah with a reply to King Hezekiah. Telling him that this enemy would be no more and truly as God declared King Sennacherib is killed by his own sons. Don't mess with God. Every enemy mocking God's capacity will meet with a fatal blow.

King Hezekiah loved God. He fell ill and when God sent the prophet Isaiah to tell him to get ready to die, Hezekiah cries to God and reminds God of his service to Him. The result was that God immediately tells Isaiah to go back and tell Hezekiah that he had another 15 years. Child of God prayer works. However, what is your service to God to credit your heavenly account?

Decree

Personalise this scripture.

Then Charles turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” 2 Kings 20:2(paraphrased, italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...
