God's Judgement

Day 110

Reading: 2 Kings 15:1 - 2 Kings 17:41

Is God real to you? Is God everything to you? Is God the only One you worship in the midst of all that happens in the nations of the earth. Reading through the books of Kings in the Bible I can't but help thinking of the world today. The similarities of the conditions of the hearts and actions of mankind are unbelievable and yet the child of God is in many cases oblivious to the ways of God.

Reading through the portion of scripture above we are introduced to Uzziah the King of Judah who reigned for 52 years. The longest reigning king of Israel. He is referred to as Azariah also. He began his reign at 16 years of age. He did what was right before God even though he died a leper for God struck him with leprosy. Responsibility comes with a load of accountability.

As Uzziah reigned over Judah numerous kings reigned in Israel. None sought God that finally, God gave the Assyrians victory over the people of Samaria and then the entire kingdom of Israel. At first, when the Assyrians came and attacked Samaria the King of Israel, Menahem, collected a tax from all the wealthy people to give to the Assyrian king which then turned him away. The man didn't run to God instead he came up with a solution which he thought would last however it was short lived.

The children of Israel were carried captive by the Assyrians who then populated their cities with their own population. This was in fulfilment to the word of God which Moses spoke that a time would come and the people would be carried to foreign lands Deut 28:47-66. Reading the curses that Moses pronounced you will see that all came to pass over the children of Israel. How many believers have been displaced because of disobedience to God?

Just because they were displaced from their land didn't mean that God forgot the land. The Assyrians who dwelt in Samaria had to deal with marauding lions that ate them because they didn't fear the Lord. The Assyrian king got a priest to teach the people the fear of the Lord though they continued to sacrifice to their gods. How many Assyrian kings have arisen today who are supervising religions while many serve foreign gods?

Though the Assyrians living in Samaria had a priest teaching the Fear of the Lord they still sacrificed to their goods. This is a picture of today. We have many priests teaching on Sunday, however, the people have another god they serve from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night. God is only thought of for the space of 2 hours and then we wonder why He is not involved in all our affairs. The people being taught the law were not God's covenant children a replica of today where many say they are Christians yet have no covenant with God. May we return to God and serve Him wholeheartedly peradventure the hand of judgement will pass us. Only God is to be served, feared, worshipped and lived for. Everything else is temporal. He has promised to deliver if we walk uprightly before Him.

Memory Verse: 2 Kings 17:39

Decree

Father, I surrender my all to You. I choose to serve You. I declare that I will walk in the fear of God all the days of my life. I decree that God is my deliverer. I decree that that will only worship Jehovah all the days of my life.

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
