Letter to My Consolers

Day 144

Reading: Job 13:1 - Job 17:16

Dear Friends,

Thank you for reaching to me whilst I am in trouble. I appreciate that you have chosen to seat with me and console me as I walk through this affliction. It's been tough and I am grateful that at least I am not alone as you have come to sit beside me as I try to figure out what is going on while I am in this sad state.

It's great to be in tough situations surrounded by friends. Great because I am not alone. Many times when we go through challenges we are left alone. Friends whom you have helped or relied on suddenly flee and leave you to cry alone. You haven't left me alone. You indeed are a different breed of friends.

I want you to know that my trust is in God. I may appear shaken and stirred, however, my trust is in God. Though He slays me my trust is wholly in Him. I believe I have a hope within me that just like a stump of a tree will grow at the scent of water flowing nearby I also know that as long as I am alive God will raise me up.

I am concerned though with the accusations you have brought forth as you sought to analyse my situation. You have persistently preached a message of sin at me. You have constantly accused me of hidden sin as being the cause of my problems. Has God revealed to you or is it your own internal deductions that only sin against God can be the cause of my afflictions. Also, your words have been comfortless. You have spoken words not to strengthen me but to vilify me.

My desire is that you plead with God for me. Everyone facing trouble has a great desire to be liberated. God is the Deliverer. He is able to save from the deepest pit we may find ourselves in. The desire of anyone in a hole or pit in life is for deliverance. To be lifted up and brought to safety. Prayer to God is required for that to happen as God is The Saviour.

Apart from prayer and speaking words of comfort to one going through trouble, my dear friends, it's important that you be a source of hope. Don't approach someone from a place of misery because you become a miserable comforter. Be a source of hope in speech and action. Be one who lifts others from the downtrodden place. Purpose to be a lifter always and you will discover that you bring hope and joy to many.

With loads of love,

Job

Memory Verse: Job 16:5

Decree:

"“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease.Though its root may grow old in the earth, and its stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth branches like a plant." Job 14:7-9. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
