Day 187
Reading: Isaiah 35:1 - Isaiah 37:38
When God repeats a matter 3 times there must something He is emphasising to us. Today's portion of scripture contains the story of King Hezekiah and his encounters with the king of Assyria Sennacherib. We find a record of this encounter in 2 Kings chapters 18 and 19. The same encounter is also given to us in 2 Chronicles 32. To find it here again made me ponder what is God is emphasising in this matter.
Firstly, the enemy doesn't rest at attacking anyone. He may go away for a period but not forever. Learn that your enemy will always return to seek to make you captive. The enemy desires to draw you away from worshipping God. The enemy's desire is that you stop trusting God.
Secondly, God is able to fight for us. As Hezekiah cried to God, Isaiah was prophesying the death of Sennacherib. When Sennacherib went to take Jerusalem, he blasphemed against God mocking the altar of the Living God. God doesn't need an army to defend His name. He sent an angel to dispose of the enemy before Sennacherib returned to his home and was killed by his own sons as he worshipped his idols. God knows how to mock your mockers!
Thirdly, learn to seek God. Hezekiah ran to God. When Sennacherib sent men to Hezekiah they asked him if he would seek help from Pharoah before comparing God to the idols they had destroyed in previous conquests of other nations. Hezekiah didn't run to a man or nation. He ran to the House of God. Stop running to the doctor, lawyer, bank or financier before you run to God for instructions on how to proceed.
Fourth, Hezekiah understood the principles that operate in a court. He took evidence of the enemy's report to God. Understand that prayer operates like a court of law. When you approach prayer with the understanding that God is the Righteous Judge, you will present evidence to support your case of attrition that the enemy is waging against you. Support your case with terms of the covenant that God has made with you and present the letters of the enemy as evidence to give God occasion to do as He has promised.
Lastly, fear not. Don't entertain fear at all. Reject every occasion of fear. Disregard every attempt of the enemy to introduce fear. Innoculate yourself from fear by not only praying but declaring boldness continually. Be a lion that stands up against the enemy.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 35:10
Decree:
Isaiah 37:20
Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord, You alone.” (italics mine)
