Focus Above Not Below

Day 184

Reading: Isaiah 26:1 - Isaiah 28:29

We all are searching for rest in life. The reason we work hard is to provide a lifestyle that brings rest from the place of poverty. a thief doesn't steal because of a habit but because they want to improve their lives, not that there is any reason to steal except evil intent.  Every human being is after rest. That's why we go on holidays, seek greener pastures because we want a life that is at rest. However, the complexity of life is that rest is not being without work or doing anything. The kind of rest that God gives is one that enables your weary soul to be refreshed and continue taking the land of promise.

The peace of God is very much tied to our rest in God. Without being at peace we are fretful, hasty in actions and speech which all leads to a life of bondage. When the peace of God floods one's life they are assured of rest. Their inside man is at rest knowing that God has everything in control. God's desire is to lead you from the place of toil to the land where you will rest. The children of Israel left Egypt heading to the place of promise. This journey and their subsequent arrival into the land is a shadow for us believers to understand that God's rest requires our total reliance on Him.

You cannot enjoy the peace of God if your focus is not God. When your mind is constantly doubting God you find that you don't have the peace of God. To see the fullness of the peace of God in life one must trust wholly in God. Trust in God will unlock the peace of God. Without the peace of God, one is left in the dark in life. With the peace of God, one can receive instructions from God with ease.

Notice the relationship between the state of your mind and your heart. When your heart is secure in God and fully trusts Him then your mind will not tolerate any thought of doubt. Take charge of your thinking to walk in the peace of God.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 26:3

Decree:

Isaiah 26:12
Lord, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our works in us. (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
