Avoid Arrogance

Day 228

Reading: Hosea 1:1 - Hosea 4:19

The world today is seeing a rise of many people suffering from arrogance. Yes, arrogance. An arrogant person has an attitude of superiority that is displayed in an overbearing behaviour or presumptuous claims or assumptions that they hold onto in life according to the Webster dictionary. I have come to realise that we all manifest a village mentality syndrome when we are arrogant in our behaviour. At the root of arrogance is ignorance. You see an arrogant person thinks they know it all and their way is the only way because they have a limited world view and anyone who doesn't fit their fantasy world is not fit for purpose. You may wonder why I have started off like this, however, God has challenged me to question my beliefs, assumptions, presumptions and everything that would qualify me for arrogance. However, the Book of Hosea will challenge your worldview with some startling acts that God required Hosea to go outside of the norm.

Hosea means salvation and the Book of Hosea is a story of God's desire for His people to know His boundless love. The bible says that when Hosea began to hear God he was instructed to marry a prostitute. The Bible doesn't tell us of whether he wavered or thought about. He wasn't arrogant to think that how I can I as a prophet do this? He instead understood the power of obedience. He obeyed and they had 3 children. She later leaves him and he has to buy her back again as instructed by God. This relationship was a symbol of the relationship between God and His children. To obey God will require we be willing to step out of comfort zones something arrogance will hinder.

Many are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The main reason we run away from arrogant people is that they are ignorant. Who wants to be associated with someone whose worldview is limited? Who wants to relate with someone who can't move from their beliefs. An arrogant person will not readily receive new information that is not correlated to their world. Many today may not agree with being called arrogant but whenever you refuse God's knowledge and choose to stay in the carnal worldview you are simply arrogant. Sorry that's the truth and it's painful. We need to understand that we need to imbibe God's knowledge to be able to see God fill our universe. Let me give you an example of where many are perishing? God promises that those who obey His Word He will bless however many today want to define how to obey God's word. Is it any wonder we don't enjoy this Kingdom life! When you choose to believe something other than the Word of God you are not using the knowledge of God to your advantage.

The Psalmist declared that the children of Israel limited God Psalms 78:41. You limit God when you choose to stay within your limited worldview and that is arrogance. Arrogance is related to pride. Humility is acknowledging God's way as the best and only way forward. Seek God's knowledge. Poverty today is seen in many places where education is looked down upon. Many today have a spiritual poverty because they are arrogant to God's knowledge. May I challenge your level of knowledge in God and ask you to dive deeper into that which God has for you. Don't forget that Daniel revealed that the people that know their God they shall do exploits and be strong Daniel 11:32b. Know speaks of knowledge. You don't fail an exam because you know a lot. You fail because you don't know. Study God's ways, seek for God, be hungry to know God. Humble yourself, move from ignorance and seek God's knowledge that you may avoid the traps of arrogance that bring stagnation. God help me make every step away from arrogant behaviour. I hope it's your prayer too!

Memory Verse: Hosea 3:5

Decree:

Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. (italics mine)

Now is....

Everyday I seek to share something that I have learnt through the daily reading. I make a choice to discipline myself not to write too much as we inundated with a lot of reading material. Feel free to add comments because that way we share and thus encourage one another to grow into the fullness of Christ. Today I am amazed at the fact that God will always remember His covenant and fulfill the promise. I want to list five words in the order they appear in one scripture that showed God is at work in our lives. Remembered : My God will never forget me. To be delayed is not to be denied as God will surely remember. God spoke and said to Sarah that He would return at the appointed time; at the right season!!! I do believe that we are in a season where we will see God begin to act on the promises that seem forgotten. Or better put in another way there is a resurrection of seemingly forgotten prophecies that is about to take place. Dry bones are beginning to take shape. Listened : No longer ...

Blessing or ....

To live well is one thing we all desire. I have never met anyone who did not want to live well. By living well for some people it means helping others. For others it means having a successful business. Yet for others it means travelling the world. I have discovered that it is not money that empowers but the blessing of God that empowers. Money is simply one of the many ways that the effects of the blessing may show up. Many times today in society we confuse money with being blessed yet people like Mother Teresa did not flaunt money but her life still is blessing many people round the world. The book of Deuteronomy has challenged me to desire to be blessed. Anyone who has walked with the blessing of God in their live has seen doors open that are a struggle for others. Yesterday I wrote about obedience. What obedience opens our lives to is the operation of the blessing. By choosing to obey the Word we are choosing to open our lives to be blessed. The purpose of being blessed is not self ...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
