Day 227
Reading: Daniel 9:1 - Daniel 12:13
We are living in perilous times. If in doubt just listen to the news. Hurricanes, storms, earthquakes, heatwaves are all abnormalities we see on earth. Planes disappearing, the crime that is at unprecedented levels in some parts of our world, drug abuse are just a few examples of the depravity we are facing. Many today are dealing with mental health issues partly because of the pressures many are facing. I write this not to mock anyone but the pressures today are unreal sometimes and when one is not grounded they can easily lose focus in life.
Daniel was captured from Judah and taken to live in Babylon. While there he kept studying the prophecies of God. He not only studied the education provided by the government but also privately studied the Word of God. We see he studied the books implying he was a student of the Word of God. In the process of studying, he came to the place of understanding. Daniel had encounters with heavenly beings who revealed to him the meanings of the visions he saw. Daniel's hunger for God led him to receive insight from angels.
Not only was Daniel hungry for insight from God he also was a man of prayer. He sought the face of God when he made the discovery of the prophecy from Jeremiah regarding the length of the captivity. He understood that 70 years were up as prophesied and he went about the business of interceeding God about the state of His people. Daniel was not some bloke enjoying a high ranking government position who didn't care about God's Kingdom. He understood that God's Kingdom takes preeminence over all other kingdoms. Daniel was devoted to the Kingdom of God. Wherever you are serving may the Kingdom of God be at the forefront of your life.
Daniel gives us one very important key to living a life of exploits. He declared that it is the people who know their God that will do exploits. Daniel's life is an example of one who served God in government and was used by God to reveal prophecies that would take place. Daniel loved God. He ended up in the lion's den not because he went to pray but because he chose to love God. Reading the book of Daniel I have asked myself questions as to whether I pray or serve God because of an unhealthy fear, or because I love God. Daniel loved God and that I believe is the greatest lesson we can learn from him.
