The Power of Agreement

Day 232

Reading: Amos 1:1 - Amos 4:13

Welcome to the Book of Amos. Amos was a farmer whom God called to be a prophet. He prophesied in during the reign of Uzziah, the king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the king of Israel. Another prophet who was also in this timeline is Hosea who prophesied to the Kingdom of Israel. The Book of Amos begins with a startling fact. It was written two years before the earthquake. Amos begins prophesying and declares that it is two years before an earthquake.

Amos in prophesying to the nations declares to Israel that God was weighed down by the disobediece of His children. God questions the deeds of the children of Israel. Their disobedience defied His covenant. The children of Israel were committing idolatry and thus not walking with God. God desires that we walk with Him. The earth is looking for people who are walking with God to manifest His glory in all realms of life. We can only walk with God when we are in agreement with Him.  What is walking with God in agreement?

  • Obedience signifies to God that you are in agreement with His standards. When we obey the commandments of God we are telling God that I agree with everything He requests.
  • Prayer is the route to manifesting God's agreement on earth. When we seek God's face we are saying to God that we need Him and desire to see His power manifested.
  • A lifestyle of praise and thanksgiving magnifies God revealing your desire to walk with Him. Praise brings God into the scene. Praise enables God to build a throne on His children.
What is the blessing of walking in agreement with God?
  • God has secrets which can only be revealed through relationship Deuteronomy 29:29; Psalms 25:14. Your pursuit of God will open the doors for you to receive His secrets.
  • Protection from the coming judgement. The earth will experience God's judgement and only those who are walking in agreement with Him will escape. Remember Elijah crying to God about the terror of Jezebel and Ahab against the prophets of God. God told Elijah that there were 7000 hidden by God, not just him. God desires to hide us in this tumultuous times we are living in.
  • Our hearts remain tender. One of the challenges of the day is that many peoples' hearts are calloused. God desires we maintain tender hearts. Walking with God helps us maintain a pure contrite and broken heart before God.
Prepare to meet God child of God! Prepare to meet Him in your daily affairs. Walk with God in agreement and you will see Him.

Memory Verse: Amos 3:7

Decree:

Amos 3:3
Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? (italics mine)

A better tomorrow

Everyone is hopeful for a better tomorrow. That's why we say "Good morning" at the start of the day. It's an indicator of the hope within that welcomes the dawning of a new day to bring better fortunes our way. God's mercies are new every morning and His compassion does not fail. When faced with adversity it becomes harder to see a better tomorrow, but resilient people are focused on the fact that trouble is only a comma in the sentence of life. At a time where fear has gripped many hearts because of various reasons, it is difficult to remain hopeful. Without hope, you cannot have the faith necessary to live. Faith is the substance of what is hoped for. Faith gives hope tangibility. To be without hope is to open the door of low living. Hopelessness is the start of damnation in life. You and I were born for a reason. We are not just statistics, making up numbers in any particular nation. You and I were born to reign in life. That situation that has so far made...

Lessons From A Parable

Day 259 Reading: Luke 14:1 - Luke 16:31 The thoughts that God has for you are too many to be counted. Jesus while speaking asked the disciples if they knew the number of hairs that fall off their head? Jesus told them that God is so interested in the minute details about us that He knows when one hair falls down. God is so detailed about our lives because He is good. When you embrace the goodness of God by understanding that God's love towards us is immeasurable. Whilst reading today's passages my heart was refreshed as I read a very famous parable featuring the prodigal son.   Jesus tells us of two sons and a father. The younger son asked for his inheritance and left home leaving the elder son and his father.  The younger went to a faraway land and wasted his life. He soon was dead broke, deserted by his new found friends and looking for a job. He soon was working for a farmer feeding his pigs. His job must have been so mundane with low pay as he ate the food the...

Absalom's Treachery

Day 91 Reading: 2 Sam. 14:1 - 2 Sam. 15:37 One of life's most painful lessons is the treachery of human beings. When family or friends hurt you and leave you grieving the pain is not the same as when someone out on the street does something wrong. The pain goes deeper and it's easy to become bitter. Absalom had fled from Israel knowing that he was a wanted man for the murder and revenge on Ammon his step-brother. Joab arranged for a wise woman to go see David and get him to forgive Absalom. The wise woman made David realise that he was not setting a godly example by exiling Absalom. The wise woman made David understand that God will not banish anyone but he will seek the person out. God will do everything in His power to restore the banished person. The wise woman was asking David not to forget the grace of God that enables one to enjoy forgiveness. David gets Absalom brought back to Jerusalem however for 2 years he didn't see him. Now, this was worse than ...
